On the road to Ierapetra and a few minutes from Makry Gialos is Koutsouras, the newest of the villages in the area. The wonderful beach with dark gray unique pebbles, with the crystal clear blue-green waters and the thick-shaded tamarisk trees is a great challenge for the visitors. Famous are the two taverns of the settlement that attract hundreds of visitors daily. The beach awarded with blue flags by the European Union is the first wider of the southern beaches to be found on the road from Ierapetra to Sitia.
